Welcome to the life of an ALT (assistant language teacher) in Nagasaki. I started this journal when I visited Japan in 2004 with JFMFTP, then continued it when I returned as a member of the JET Programme in 2006. Enjoy!
I just got some new fish for the summer season. At the summer festivals, children play a game called "kingyosukui" -they try to catch goldfish with a paper scoop! You don't have to work too hard to have fun with my fish, though - just move your cursor over top of their pond & click to drop them some little treats :)
Funny thing about that - Last year my friend had gotten two hams from the Navy base. One she used right away, and the other...well, when it came time to use it, she couldn't find it ANYWHERE. Finally (a WHILE later) she went out on her patio and found it in a (clean) garbage bag off to the side. That blasted thing was still frozen! So, yes, winter does have its perks sometimes! Hey, I really can't complain - at least I don't need to keep my toothpaste in the fridge to prevent it from freezing!

fyi - it was about 31 degrees outside on my porch at 6:30 a.m.
YEA for winter!
At least there are less bugs!
Brrrr.... but I bet you can cut down on opening the fridge - just leave stuff out on the counter!
